What to Wear to a Job Interview

28 Nov, 2017 | Savile Row
There’s lots to be done before an interview: update your resume, research, and of course, practice your killer lines. But what about your outfit? Just as important as those mentioned, yet often overlooked, deciding what to wear to a job interview is a tricky task. However, follow our handy advice below and you’ll be dressing for success in no time at all.

Check the Dress Code

Now we don’t encourage stalking, but if you can, try and scope out the office dress code by checking out HQ prior to your meet. Simply take a look at what the staff are wearing – whilst they’re entering the building, not at their desk – and use this as a reference. Not only will this allow you to judge what garments are deemed suitable, but it’ll make it easier for your interviewer to picture you as part of the team. in_in_doubt_model

If in Doubt, Wear a Suit

The initial impression you make on your would-be employer is incredibly important and can never be taken back. When you first meet, it’s inevitable that they will form an assessment based on what you're wearing and how you carry yourself. To ensure you make a positive impact – no matter what the job – a navy suit is a must-have. But make sure it fits. No one is going to slate you for being too smart, but they will judge you if you turn up unkempt. If you feel overdressed, lose the tie and stick with a classic crisp white shirt. Keep It Simple

Whilst we’re all for expressing yourself, when it comes to dressing for an interview, it’s best to keep things simple and not go overboard. To create a fail-safe outfit that will impress but not overpower, steer clear of anything too flashy and resist trying too hard. If your potential new work place requires something more relaxed than a suit, a simple crew neck jumper, button-down shirt, chinos and Chelsea boots would be perfect. model2 WHAT TO WEAR TO A JOB INTERVIEW

Polish Your Shoes

They say you can tell a lot about a man from his shoes, so before you leave the house it’s vital you give yours a good polish. After all, if you can’t be bothered to make an effort, what will this say about your enthusiasm for the job? For those after a new pair, how about trying these for size: WHAT TO WEAR TO A JOB INTERVIEW

Avoid Jeans

Unless you’ve already been told jeans are acceptable, it’s probably best to avoid any kind of denim to eliminate the risk of looking too casual. Instead, opt for a pair of tailored trousers or, alternatively, some classic chinos. Dress these up with a jacket and shirt, or down with a fine knit roll neck; either way, you’re getting that job…

And Finally…

Take a trip to the barbers; you’ll look great and feel more confident as a result.
