What to Wear to a Smart-Casual Party

15 Nov, 2017 | Savile Row
With party season almost in full flow, the time has come to equip yourself with everything you need to see you through the festivities in style. However, if the thought of another smart-casual dress code frightens you more than the Christmas crowds on Oxford Street, we urge you not to worry. To ensure you’re prepared, we’ve put together this handy guide to help you decide exactly what to wear to a smart-casual party…

First Things First

Before we share our list of essential items, it’s important to take a moment to consider the nature of the soiree you will be turning up to. Depending on who you have received your party invite from, there are going to different outfits that will be more suitable than others. For example, if the night is taking you to your annual work’s do, you’re probably going to want to lean slightly towards the former part of this sartorial oxymoron. In comparison, if it’s a get-together at your friend’s house, you can afford to wear something a little more relaxed. Having said that, if ever in doubt, we would always suggest to be overdressed than underdressed. Oh, and we almost forgot, if you have no idea what we’re talking about, we’ve explained what the smart-casual dress code is here.

The Outfits

Now you’ve had your pep talk, below we have listed three of our favourite men’s smart-casual outfits and – to help further – highlighted the type of party they would be appropriate for. Outfit #1 WHAT TO WEAR TO A SMART-CASUAL PARTY Slightly more formal than it is casual – although still remaining true to the dress code in question – this timeless look shows you mean business without feeling overly dressy. If you’re going to be spending some of your night outside, keep warm with a herringbone jacket – it certainly wouldn’t look out of place. Best for: Engagement/wedding parties, work’s do, New Year’s Eve or a big birthday celebration. Outfit #2 WHAT TO WEAR TO A SMART-CASUAL PARTY If we were to draw up a list of all the must-own items needed for creating faultless smart-casual attire, this outfit could be made from the outcome. Ideal for many kinds of celebratory events, wear it and you’re guaranteed to make a stylish impression. Best for: Family house parties, festive ‘catch-ups’ or your work’s do. Outfit #3 WHAT TO WEAR TO A SMART-CASUAL PARTY Comfortable yet undeniably dapper, our final ensemble is slightly less polished than those before – but by no means unkempt. Not a fan of crew neck jumpers? Swap yours for a V-neck design or our luxurious fine knit cardigan. Best for: Christmas Eve/Day, family house parties or New Year’s Day.

Final Word

Now you know how to create the perfect men’s smart-casual look, it’s time to relax and get into the spirit of things; may we suggest a nice glass of brandy by an open fire? *Not all of these items are now in stock*
