With memories of Danny Willet’s recent win at The Masters, the PGA tournaments underway and the 145th Open due later this summer – most recreational golfers are feeling energised and inspired.

Whether you’re looking for some serious course action, networking on the links or simply hankering to tee-off with good friends or family – you know that on the green – it’s function first, with style close behind.

We golfers come in all shapes, sizes — and ages! Ability also varies, but regardless of whether you're a scratch player or a 28 handicapper, it does no harm to look good when you swing the clubs. Although a little sartorial showmanship is encouraged – make sure you check any dress code associated with your club.

The foundation of a golf wardrobe: a pair of chinos. They’re simple, versatile and go with everything. Every golfer needs at least one pair, if not several. Both our classic and slim fit chinos include a small bonus that gives a huge advantage – a touch of stretch for comfort, fit and keeping their shape. With either a pleat or flat front – you’re spoilt for choice.

As a rule of thumb – keep bright colours to one element of your outfit – so if you opt for a bold pair of chinos – create balance with a slightly more toned down top.

Not all golf days are sunshine and clear skies. So when it’s overcast, throw on one of our fine cotton-cashmere jumpers. You’ll get a trim, clean look if the shirt collar is kept in.

The classic polo has long been known as the essential golf shirt. Make sure to score a birdie not a bogie by dumping the over-roomy polos languishing in your wardrobe and choose one that gently skims your frame, yet not so much to hinder your swing. The Savile Row Company polo shirts are made in moisture wicking pique cotton with 5% spandex for stretch and shape retention.

Go classic with either a pale blue or navy polo or more upbeat shades of turquoise or magenta. The former looks great with our bright blue chinos or shorts while the magenta partners well with navy trousers especially as they match the discreet Savile Row logo on the polo chest. A small tip – most clubs insist that only collared shirts be worn so no T-shirts and like a standard shirt - keep your polo tucked in.

No garb says summer more than shorts and when the mercury starts to rise – these could well be your course-wear of choice. Clubs tend to be quite strict on shorts etiquette – length just above knee level – no shorter and a baggy cargo style would be given ‘short shrift’ indeed! Some clubs even go so far as specifying that shorts can only be worn with either knee socks or socklets so a prelim check might be an idea.

Like our chinos – our tailored shorts are cut in high-quality cotton twill with a small percentage of elastane for maximum comfort and a little stretch.

The light blue shorts teamed with a navy polo has been a favourite combo amongst our golfing customers as has the taupe short and summery yellow polo

So with just a few key pieces – your sporty style will be on par. And as you day-dream of lifting the Claret Jug – remember, as Ben Hogan said – ‘The most important shot in golf is the next one’. There’s hope for us all!
