Beat the winter blues with the perfect winter coat
Now that the clocks have gone back and frosts are forecast, it’s time to get into everything that’s great about winter!
And if you want to be sure that you’re going to be toasty warm as you make your way from one centrally heated place to another, no matter what the weather throws at you … it’s also time to get your winter coat sorted.
What makes the perfect winter coat?
The perfect winter coat should look as great as you feel, snugly buttoned up inside it. It should also be spot-on for the social situation – because it is, after all, the first thing that many people see when they meet you. And first impressions count in the dead of winter just as much as during the rest of the year.
What looks brilliant over the casual outfit you wear to head for the pub at the weekend may – or may not – cut the mustard with suits and formal business wear. And then there’s the question of how to get it right for those less formal, ‘dress-down’ business occasions.
Starting with colour…
Starting with colour, there’s scope to experiment with some new shades this year. You can stick with navy if you like … Navy is, and always be, a fantastically smart, timeless option to wear over business suits.
But you might prefer to go for a rich, toffee-like camel…
…Or a striking black and white dogtooth:
Versatility is always a bonus
One of the major advantages of opting for camel or dogtooth is their increased versatility – as both formal and more relaxed outerwear. It’s not that you can’t pull off a great look with a navy overcoat over a laid back outfit – you can!
But it’s just that bit easier with camel or black and white check…
Classics with a contemporary spin
Note that we’ve upped the ante here and put a contemporary spin onto a couple of well-known classics. The distinctive velvet-collared covert coat and the much-loved traditional car coat.
We love the way these heritage-inspired tailored wool coats (the covert is 100% wool and the car coat 70% wool with 30% cashmere) invite you to create you own individual super-smart or semi-smart looks. Particularly good news when you’re seeking to to strike the right note on ‘dress-down’ business occasions.
Keep warm – and maintain your cool
Some occasions, and some weather conditions too, call for something short of a full overcoat. These are the moments when the peacoat is your real smart-meets-casual hero. It’s the piece that will keep you warm whilst maintaining a highly respectable degree of cool – and looking effortless to boot…
Zip up and enjoy your down time!
